Universal Grinding Machine WOTAN® S6U for Highest Precision

The Saxon grinding machine manufacturer WEMA Glauchau GmbH will be displaying the 6 series of its universal grinding machines at AMB 2012 for the first time. The WOTAN® S6U  universal grinding machine measures approx. 6 m in length and 2.8 m in width and can be used to grind large workpieces of up to a length of 1,400 mm and a weight of up to 650 kg (at the mandrel nose) internally and externally as well as flat and even. The WOTAN® S6U is also available as an XL version with optional workpiece lengths of up to 2,200 mm. With both internal and external circular grinding operations, the maximal grinding diameter equals 650 mm.

The grinding depth of the universal circular grinding machine on display equals 900 mm. Since the beginning of this year WEMA Glauchau is also offering its customers the option of precise circular internal grinding work on especially long workpieces with a depth of 1,200 mm. This depth was previously difficult to achieve with internal circular grinding operations since the ratio of 10:1 (between the length and the diameter) was considered to be a limiting factor. WEMA however successfully met this technical challenge and was thus able to deliver the first grinding machines with a grinding depth of 1,200 mm.

The displayed grinding machine has an internal and external grinding unit featuring one mandrel turret (B2 axis) each. The internal grinding unit is equipped with a high frequency mandrel with a maximum speed of 36.000 rpm which also allows the use of various belt-driven grinding mandrels. The headstock also installed there along with the external grinding unit with its two grinding mandrels enables longitudinal grinding and plunge-cut grinding. WEMA recently also developed a technical highlight in this area which will be available to customers in future as an optional extra that allows external circular grinding operations to be carried out behind the steady rest. This can usually only be done with purely external circular grinding machines. However, with the newly developed universal circular grinding machine of the 6 series, which will be available soon, customers will also be able to externally circulary grind surfaces of workpieces measuring up to 2,000 mm in length and situated up to 500 mm behind the steady rest.

WOTAN® S6U for the internal, external and plane surface grinding of a variety of workpieces – live at AMB

Along with the internal, external and plane surface grinding, the displayed grinding machine also enables the internal and external grinding of Polygons.

According to the marketing manager at WEMA Glauchau GmbH, we will definitely be attracting the interest of visitors at AMB with the flexibility, efficiency and individuality of our WEMA S6U.

WEMA will be presenting itself at AMB in Hall 8 at Stand 8C60.
